Symposium on Applied Mathematics and Statistics at the Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics

The Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics organized an important scientific symposium on “Applied Mathematics and Statistics” on November 18-19, 2024, under the supervision of the Dean, Professor Abdelmoumen Hamouma. The event was held in the lecture hall of the central library at Batna 2 University. The symposium, attended by the University President, the People’s Mediator, as well as a select group of professors, doctors, and students, provided an excellent opportunity to discuss the importance of mathematics and statistics in various fields of both academic and practical life.

The symposium began with an opening speech by Professor Jaffal Amir, who welcomed the attendees, including Dr. Hissan Smadi, the Director of Batna 2 University; Mr. Abdelhafid Brima, the People’s Mediator of Batna Province; and Professors Sidik Amour, Abdelhafid Meghran, and Yahya Jebran. He emphasized the importance of such scientific gatherings in fostering interaction among various academic disciplines and exchanging knowledge and experiences. He noted that applied mathematics and statistics are fundamental sciences that are applied in many fields such as economics, engineering, medicine, environment, technology, and more, making the study of these sciences essential in the modern era.

The People’s Mediators also spoke about the vital role mathematics plays in solving many contemporary challenges, particularly in the field of data analysis and decision-making based on accurate data. They added that mathematics and statistics are no longer merely academic tools but have become a necessity in both public and private institutions to keep pace with global changes.

The symposium included a series of scientific sessions featuring a number of professors and doctors specializing in applied mathematics and statistics. These sessions covered various topics related to the applications of mathematics in daily life, how mathematical models are used to analyze complex data, and how they support making correct decisions.

One session focused on “Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning,” where participants discussed how mathematics contributes to the development of smart algorithms and improving the capabilities of computer systems. The importance of statistics in big data analysis was also discussed, along with advanced statistical methods to extract valuable insights from datasets.

In another session, “Economic Applications of Statistics” was explored, where participants discussed how statistics is used in financial market analysis, price forecasting, and studying consumption patterns. The role of mathematics in designing economic models was also highlighted, showing how they can contribute to more accurate decision-making in business and investment sectors.

Students played an important role in the symposium by asking questions and providing scientific interventions. They showed a great interest in understanding the role of mathematics and statistics in their future fields. Workshops were organized during the event to showcase the practical applications of these sciences in professional life, especially in fields such as data analysis, financial engineering, business management, and scientific research.

In conclusion, this symposium was an important step towards reinforcing the significance of mathematics and statistics as vital scientific fields. The academic and technological advancements of the future will continue to rely on a deep understanding of these sciences and their diverse applications.
